I Ask the Jaguars, Eagles, and Falcons, “What Have You Done For Me Lately?”

The NFL is a year to year league, and if the 2018 season has taught us anything, it’s that we need to predict the unpredictable.

The NFL is a year to year league, and if the 2018 season has taught us anything, it’s that we need to predict the unpredictable.

I will raise my hand here and tell you that I foreshadowed the downfall of Philly’s finest this season, but I will now sit down and shut up as I pegged both the Jaguars and Falcons as playoff teams who could potentially make a run at something greater.

The Jaguars and Eagles spent their 2018 off-seasons doing a victory lap, and it’s proving costly now. Eagles Head Coach and Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles both did book tours. Jalen Ramsey did a GQ story where he called every quarterback in the league trash. The Eagles are now 4-6 after getting annihilated by the true contender New Orleans Saints 48-7, and the Jaguars are 3-7 after blowing a 16-0 4th quarter lead against the Steelers at home.

The Jalen Ramsey led Jags D has regressed mightily in 2018

Obviously 2 book tours and a GQ spread didn’t individually torpedo two NFL team’s seasons. I do believe that these two examples show teams and players who took their eye off the ball, and rested on their laurels instead of working to defend them.

To be fair to the Eagles, they still have a fair shot to make the playoffs with the division leading Redskins now touting a QB room featuring Colt McCoy and Mark Sanchez. And at least they have a ring.

To be fair to Jalen Ramsey, Blake Bortles.

When it comes to the Falcons, they have been killed by injuries. The offense and namely Steve Sarkisian have been much improved from 2017, but there is still some left to be desired, aka Julio Jones taking 8 weeks to get his first touchdown. There is fair blame to Dan Quinn that despite him being a defensive guru, the defense has not been able to overcome the injuries suffered early on.

To be fair to Dan Quinn, it’s 2018 in the NFL, offenses reign supreme.

Excuses or not, the Eagles, Jags, and Falcons are important reminders that success is fleeting in this league. What have you done for me lately?
